How To Do Bas Rutten's Escape From An Opponent's Guard
Mixed martial arts legend Bas Rutten gives a lesson in mixed martial arts. Learn how to use an armbar against your opponent
in order escape his guard and position yourself for a submission finish.
- Step 1:
- Arm Fake
- You are in your opponent's guard (between his legs). Lay one of your arms on your opponent's chest (fist
towards his face).
- Step 2:
- Look Away
- Now look away from your arm, like you aren't paying attention at all. This will tempt your opponent
to open up his guard in order to put you into a submission.
- Step 3:
- Pull Arm Out
- At the moment you look away, the opponent will opens his guard and want to throw his leg over me. As
soon as he does, pull your arm out.
- Step 4:
- Side Mount
- Once you pull your arm out, go on the ground, and go into a side mount. Now this is a very dangerous
position for him because now you can strike and go for a submission.
